Valve release Counter-Strike: Source for Mac:
The #1 online action game in the world, Counter-Strike: Source (CSS) has received a major update and is available now for the Mac. CSS is a Steam Play title, so if you own it on the PC - you own it on the Mac. Besides PC Vs. Mac cross-platform play, this update also adds achievements, stats, engine updates and more.
Number one is about right. If you check the number of players on Steam in online games, CSS is usually at the top. Incredible for a game that’s over 1000 years old.
And:
Valve announces a massive “Perils of Summer” sale beginning today on Steam, a leading platform for PC and Mac games with over 25 million accounts worldwide. Through July 4, gamers will find massive savings on today’s top releases, classic titles, and publisher catalogs. In addition, special 1-day sales will offer discounts up to 90% off regular prices. Don’t get caught without your sunscreen, the savings are hot.
I’ve spent today with my two year old niece; balloons, not CS:S, have been the order of the day. I’m knackered.
In other words, Valve says: step away from that update, punk:
The recent 10.6.4 update from Apple has noticeable performance issues for NVidia graphic chip owners running high performance games. If you wish to avoid this, you should consider waiting to install the 10.6.4 update until Apple has had the opportunity to address this issue. Full details of what is contained in the 10.6.4 update can be found here. If you have already installed this update and believe your graphic performance is affected, please contact Apple support for details on what to do.
Ooo, lookee: Steam for Mac has a new rotated icon in keeping with most other Mac OS X icons. It certainly does look swish sitting in my dock, an improvement on the dumpling it was before. What made me giggle was that the icon now looks a little wonky. Wonky from a dodgy graphics update…
The Mac community has been waiting for this:
Team Fortress 2 (TF2), the title PC Gamer’s editors have called the most fun game ever made, is now available for the Mac via Steam, a leading online platform for games with over 25 million accounts worldwide.
Those who play TF2 on the Mac will receive a free set of “earbuds” for their player character. Purchase the game this weekend on either platform and save 50% off the regular price. Or, try it via the Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend happening now on Steam.
In addition to all the TF2-Mac goodness, a new single-player training mode has been rolled out for both PC and Mac.
I never got into TF2, much too manic for me. But with the addition of a training mode, maybe I can be eased into the mania and enjoy it.
As Valve start releasing multiplayer titles I’d like to get some inter-clan-website-group-matchy-scrimm things happening. All very non-competitive, with a firm emphasis on fun (but actually mega serious that’ll result in riffs and real life retribution).
Do let me know if you’re interested!
Delayed till 2011, folks:
Aperture Science, doing business as Aperture Laboratories LLC, in partnership with Valve today announced the successful completion of an ethics-review-panel-supervised release date restructuring process. Portal 2, the sequel to the ground-breaking title that earned over 30 Game of the Year awards despite missing its original ship date, is now targeted for a 2011 release.
Representatives from both companies acknowledged that public safety concerns factored into the decision. They went on to say that even though Portal 2 will arrive slightly later than planned, all life on earth won’t instantaneously stop as every molecule in your body explodes at the speed of light, which is what would happen should a rip ever appear in the fabric of Valve Time.
“Also, the game will be even better,” they added, missing an historic opportunity to create the first product delay press release to mention that a product is being delayed to make it worse.
By jolly, Apple might even update their hardware by then!
It’s that time again: Mac vs PC, the Half-Life 2 series, both covered in mud, wrestling with no t-shirts, all the rude bits…
