Myst for iPhone released

It hasn’t been that long since I wrote about Myst coming to the iPhone and now here it is, all ready to download from the App Store.
I am little surprised at the price point, $5.99. Really, that’s it? I was going to buy it anyway and now you just went ahead and made it more affordable. That’s noble, considering Myst for the Nintendo DS is/was retailing around the $20 mark. Cyan really made the right choice by not pricing it at the somewhat standard $9.99 for premium games on the App Store. Most certainly, the diehards would buy it at any price, but at $5.99 Cyan is allowing themselves access to a demographic that has never heard of Myst before but may very well just jump in if its reviews on the App Store keep up (currently 4.5 stars).
The entire adventure of Myst in your pocket for $5.99. I’ll write it one more time, to make it even more profound: the entire adventure of Myst in your pocket for $5.99.
Note: I understand not all users carry their iPhone in their pocket. Some IT people and/or older people (not to generalize) like to wear it on their belt that holds up their trousers, as if it show that at any not so particular moment they may need to easily access their phone. In that case I did not mean to discriminate against you. You too can enjoy Myst on your iPhone, just in your case it would be, “the entire adventure of Myst on your trouser belt for $5.99”.

I want to share something with you. I have on my iPhone a close to gold release of Myst, the “surrealistic adventure that will become your world”.

CVG: Myst for the iPhone

Computer and Videogames:

A version of Myst is heading to iPhone, developer Cyan has confirmed.

The news came from a post on the official Myst forums, where an unnamed developer confirmed that a small team of three has already started working on the touchscreen port.

“This is a small project that probably a very few of you know about,” said the post. “We are porting Myst to the iPhone.”

“Ok, before some of you start groaning, this is an outside funded project that is keeping a few developers employed… but it is really more than that. It is an interesting and fun project.”

Mindless puzzles on the bus, on the toilet… sounds like a natural fit to us. We’ll let you know when the first details hit.

Mindless puzzles? That’s not what I remember about Myst. What I do remember is gorgeous 3D environments, challenging, logic based puzzles and an original story.

I wonder if Cyan will take a leaf out of Frictional’s book and add mimic movement for things like levers and wheels, instead of just a click to operate.

It’s wonderful that Myst - a game released 15 years ago - is still making headlines today. Some games never die.

Riven was the sequel to Myst that was insanely difficult. I’d love to see it on the iPhone.  I never finished Riven, but I remember wandering around the photo-realistic environments in awe. Beautiful and haunting.

It’s great that these games are coming back to the Mac, too. Since we moved to Mac OS X and Intel, many of these games are troublesome to run on existing hardware.
