And Yet It Moves for $5

AYIMicon.jpg

If there’s one thing indie developers know how to do, it’s spread holiday cheer. Broken Rules has decided to follow Amanita Design’s act of generosity and offer their hit platformer And Yet It Moves for $5 this holiday season! Although I’ve said it before, you have officially run out of reasons to avoid this game. Try out the demo and see for yourself why I find AYIM to be one of the best games of the year. If you’ve got the money to spend, it’s a no-brainer.

The sale ends Dec. 31, so be sure to get it while it lasts. Also be on the lookout for AYIM on the Wii Marketplace in the first quarter of 2010. Now I finally have an excuse to purchase a Wii. Take that, Wii Fit!

Braid for Mac

The independent gaming community has been flourishing recently thanks to hit titles like World of Goo, And Yet It Moves, and Windosill. Indie developers have even included Mac gamers in their fun by releasing the majority of these titles for us as well (take that EA). However we’ve been missing out on what many consider to be the indie crown jewel, Braid. Well after patiently waiting, Braid is now available for Mac gamers to enjoy. All I can say is that it was well worth the wait.

Okay…I Love And Yet It Moves

AYIMicon.jpg

If you read my last post on And Yet It Moves, you would know that nearly all of its original flaws were addressed by the developers and turned into some of the game’s best assets. One welcome addition was frequent speed-run competitions where the top three players are each rewarded with other great independent titles. The only downside was that the titles won were only for the PC, but it looks like the developers of AYIM must be frequent readers of our blog. In that case, hello Chris, Jan, Peter and Felix. We love you all.

AYIM’s newest competition will begin June 24, and the grand prize is World of Goo for either PC or Mac. If you’re a follower of our site, you’ll know that World of Goo is held as one of our staff favorites. With such incentive to play an already amazing title, I cannot find a single flaw left in AYIM. It’s perfect. Go forth and purchase!

And Yet It Gets Better

AYIMicon.jpg

I recently reviewed And Yet It Moves and found it to be a must-have for any gamer. It truly is a ground breaking title that should not be overlooked. And yet despite my glowing admiration, I did find few faults.

Firstly I was disappointed by the Challenge mode, unlocked after completing the game. This move felt like a poor attempt by the creators at increasing the longevity of the gameplay, and I wasn’t impressed. However the developers at AYIM have addressed this complaint by now hosting AYIM competitions. Every few weeks the developers will select a random level where players will compete for the fastest completion times using Challenge mode. The top players after a week will be rewarded with free copies of other great gaming titles that the AYIM developers hold with high regard.

This move is a perfect way to encourage players to play Challenge mode in order to hone their skills prior to the next competition. Honestly, I feel as though this once minor flaw is now all but erradicated thanks to the quick thinking of AYIM’s developers. Unfortunately the prizes seem to cater to a PC crowd at present, but I’m certain a quick email to the project leader Felix Bohatsch explaining your situation will more than solve the issue.

Secondly I found the price point of $15 for AYIM to be extremely reasonable for such a great game, but Felix and his team have again outdone themselves; AYIM has now dropped in price to $9.99/€8.99/£7.99.

With these faults resolved, you have no excuse to not purchase this title. Go out now and support gaming genius!

And Yet It Moves for Mac

I love my MacBook Pro. Every weekend I perform a ritual of deleting junk files, running antivirus software, and clearing old caches to ensure it runs at peak performance. However after playing And Yet It Moves for a few hours, I wanted to throw my beautiful Mac against the wall out of sheer frustration. And yet despite the rage, I couldn’t manage to tear myself away. Call me a masochist, but I honestly think AYIM may be one of the best games I have ever played.
