“The Deadliest Tournament in the Universe Comes to the Mac.”
Says the Destineer website for Unreal Tournament III for Mac, dated 18th December 2007.
Where the hell is it then? UT3 was released for PC back in November 2007. That was 28 months ago! In that time we’ve had BioShock, an Unreal 2.5 powered title ported to the Mac by Feral. Can porting UT3 for Mac be that hard? If it is, someone should say something, anything. Squeak at us. Run past my house and whisper it, I’ll hear it and post it here!
All Destineer tell me is that UT3 for Mac is still in development. Enough already: UT3 for Mac is dead. It’s not being released. It’s vapourware.
Destineer? I thought they gave up on mac and focused on making terrible titles for the consoles!
Mentioning Bioschock – I tried the demo on the Mac and wasn’t impressed by performance, then I decided to give the demo a go in Windows 7 where it ran much much better (smoother and more responsive to mouse movement).
I can understand that a game might take longer to come to the Mac, but when there’s such a big performance difference it feels quite sad.
Call of Duty 4 and World of Warcraft are two titles where I can say the performance is equally good in both Mac OS X and Windows (at least on my computer).
As for UT3 I’ve given up on that coming to the Mac quite some time ago. A bit sad since it’s a pretty cool game.
Maybe they (the makers of UT3) thought that if they kept quiet enough no one would notice that they neglected to make the game?
I am a new Mac user, I have been a PC enthusiast for years. I just bought a new Mac book pro the day they released the core i7′s. I am very impressed with the system and love the quality of the product but. . . I expected to have some UT3 support, I heard about steam and am very excited to have my CS:S but I am a UT junkie from way back and I don’t understand what the hell happend, how could this title fall through the cracks? Is there anything we can do someone to call or an office building to picket, anything?
I didn’t wait any longer than summer 2008 (their last estimated release date) before I gave up on waiting and bought the PC version, which I run under Boot Camp on my iMac.
