Some Things I’d Change About World of Warcraft

I’ve been playing World of Warcraft for around two years now.  While I do find the game to be an enjoyable “pastime” there is of course room for improvement.  Here are some of my suggestions for what Blizzard can do to expand the game playing experience.

I need to be able to ignore more people.  I have no idea what the ignore limit is, but whatever it is it needs to be increased.  I have been at my ignore quota for a while now.  I can’t turn off general chat as every so often something useful comes through.  Usually though the useful items are buried under an avalanche of stupid comments.  Many of these for some reason involving Chuck Norris.  Of course,  when Blizzard had the “great wisdom” of having a Mr. T event where they handed out grenades that gave characters Mohawks there was a flood of Mr. T jokes.  Those too have died down now.  Also, I don’t know about on your server but on Rexxar we have a lot of what I call, “Wintergrasp Whiners.”  These WWs come in two forms: those that start complaining immediately how the rest of us alliance suck at playing WoW and how we are so going to lose; and then those who like to bark orders like they are the second coming of Patton.  Once the orders or the whining starts I used to put these folks immediately on ignore.  Now that my ignore list is filled, I can’t.  Please Blizzard lift the limit and let me ignore again.

Whenever you are traveling great distances in the old world you are forced to use the paid “griffin system.”  There are even times in Outland or Northrend where I will take the griffin system instead of flying myself.  When you use the automatic flight system you don’t have to hold down the forward key for the three to five minutes it can take to get from A to B. I wish they’d speed these griffins up some more.  I don’t know what Blizzard gains from players being up in the air doing nothing.  They should let us do something while flying on the griffin.  At least let us work on our professions like tailoring or alchemy.  Surely we can sew while flying! We can work on the bus or the train in the real world no reason why we shouldn’t be able to work on public transportation in Azeroth.  Also, it would be great if there was a “get off the bird now” option where you could parachute or even drop to the ground at any time.

The long cinematic scenes are also an annoyance.  The Culling of the Stratholme is great fun the first time you see it.  The same cut scene is way exasperating the twentieth time you’ve seen it.  There should be a way for a group to agree to bypass a cut scene.   Trial of the Champions also has some scenes that are nice once but grating the tenth time.  A skip option would be great.

There are a couple of very minor enhancements that would make me a very happy camper.  For one, I wish we could mark and leave comments on our in game maps.  It would really be a big help to me if I could just label a spot now and then.  Even if I could just place an X there so I can find the place again the next time.  (Yes I am directionally challenged.)

Finally, I wish we could position the in game windows where we wanted on the screen.  After all,  I have this beautiful 27″ screen it would be great if I could place my bag windows or my profession windows wherever the heck I wanted.

I’m not asking for too much.  Am I?
