IMG: Sims 3 coming to Mac

[singlepic=269,500,,,center]

IMG have posted that The Sims 3 is coming to the Mac this summer, alongside PC and iPhone versions.

I followed the link on the post but couldn’t find a specific reference to the Mac version, just that the game is launching June 5th in stores.

If the game is being produced for the Mac (which is likely), I wonder if it’ll be coded in house by EA or will come wrapped up in Transgaming’s Cider technology? I have my reservations about Cider, but the technology has improved markedly since the early days of BF2142 for Mac.

A genuine ‘made for Mac’ port would in theory perform better than Cider and would show a genuine interest in developing for OS X.

    Cider works fairly well for me with Spore, on my unibody 2.4GHz MacBook. I can tell the game works my system fairly hard, because the fans are on the entire time I’m playing. But gameplay is pretty smooth, and the graphics look nice.

    Bottom line, I’d rather a game was available for OS X with Cider than not available at all.

  2. I’m actually holding off buying a new Mac until Sims 3 for Mac comes out. If our new Mac can’t play it, my wife may kill me right where I stand.

    The lack of Mac specific information is already killing her. I keep telling her that Mac versions hardly ever come out on the same day as PC versions, but she still keeps asking me to comb the web for new info (which is how I found this place!)

    Of course, I may just decide to buy a used Mac Pro, but haven’t decided if the $1000 savings it’s worth the possible risk of a lemon of a machine. http://betterisnotperfect.wordpress.com/2009/02/04/a-question-for-gamers-used-mac-pro-yes-or-no/

    I’d imagine that a Mac purchased now will play Sims 3, but on what resolution and what settings, I have no idea.

    Tell us EA!

    I’ve never had a problem running the latest games on my used Mac Pro – picked it up at PowerMax.com for a song (relatively speaking :) )

    I just read that EA has adopted Cider to use for all their prodects now, so I guess that sims 3 is going to use Cider…I’ve heard that Cider works pretty well, so I dont really care all that much. I just want it to work well and come out around the same time as Sims 3 for PC comes out.
