BF2142 1.5 Mac Patch Released

63 days after the BF2142 1.5 patch for PC was released, pissed off Mac users can finally download the patch for Mac which includes the new maps: Operation Shingle (pretty darned good) and Wake Island (pretty darned crap). If, like me, you’ve also got BF2142 for PC, this will all seem rather old. That’s because it is.

The hive mind at Transgaming (the developers who bring us BF2142 from the murky lands of Windows) responded to my questions about the absurd length of time between the PC and Mac releases, which I posted previously:

TransGaming works with EA to provide updates in parallel for PC and Mac, but occasionally the release dates of the updates is separated by a few weeks.  We are continuing to work with our partner to streamline the releases and provide consumers of the Mac version the updates in a timely manner.  It is important to note that the process of pushing out an update on the PC side alone is a significant undertaking and publishers must be focused on that first and foremost given market size and demand. While we are streamlining our processes and also better aligning our systems with all publishing partners, the core focus is first on the PC simply due to the market dynamics.

This makes complete sense in the spreadsheets of EA, but not for gamers. If EA want to make gaming on the Mac work, we need patches in a more timely fashion and not separated by “a few weeks” so we can play the game as it’s intended. If the two month delay between patches that renders the Mac version unplayable on most servers during that time continues, I’m sure EA and Transgaming will see sales fall.

Anyway, enough moaning on my part - to download the 1.5 patch for Mac, click here (speeds are twice as fast as EA’s server). Or download from FilePlanet.
